Zero-shot time-series foundation models against the Khepri v1.5 baselines for 96-hour carbon-intensity forecasts in nine Nordic bidding zones: a preregistered comparison

In briefPreregistered comparison of zero-shot forecasting models for Nordic carbon intensity

SummaryThis preregistered study compares three zero-shot time-series foundation models with the Khepri v1.5 SARIMA and GBM baselines for 96-hour forecasts of hourly carbon intensity across nine Nordic bidding zones. On the 2025 test, all three models have lower zone-averaged MAPE than both baselines and beat SARIMA in all nine zones. On a 14-origin holdout from October 2026 the differences point the same way but lie within the preregistered minimum detectable effect, so they are reported as not determined.

RegionFence: Adaptive Concurrency Control for Blockchain Parallel Transaction Execution

In briefRegionFence: adaptive concurrency control that speeds up parallel transaction processing on blockchains.

SummarySmart contract execution limits blockchain throughput, and most parallel engines use one concurrency policy per block, forcing whole transactions to re-execute or wait. This paper proposes RegionFence, which splits transactions into regions, uses run-time fences to decide how each region handles conflicts, and applies intra-block and inter-block online learning to anticipate conflicts while preserving serial-equivalent results. Implemented in go-ethereum and evaluated on Ethereum mainnet blocks from five years, it reports a 9.2x overall speedup over single-core execution on 64 cores. It outperforms OCC by 2.9–5.4x and PCC by 3.9–9.4x across the tested periods.
